Anecdotal evidence suggests; merit hiring scandal breaking Fletcher's way

The Fletcher Administration has been beleagured by the merit hiring scandal since May. Kentucky's two major daily newspapers have been working hard to publicize every hiccup along the way.

But anecdotal evidence suggests that the scandal may be going Fletcher's way. One story in the Herald-Leader regarding the perception of citizens in eastern Kentucky, indicates that alotof folks over there feel as though what has happened with Fletcher has been par for the course in Frankfort. Comments in the Herald-Leader from a democrat at Fancy Farm, were defensive about Stumbo, not critical of Fletcher.

On a personal level, A trusted non-political friend asked me the other day "Don't they all do it". Finally, a good friend of mine, and a fellow attorney told me the other day: I am a life long democrat, and will always be a democrat. I'm not concerned with what happened in Frankfort, everyone knows the democrats did it too. I think that the AG is wasting the taxpayer's dollars and time.

My trusted non-political friend has been a pretty good bell weather for me, and the comments of the life long democrat strengthens the argument. The Fletcher Administration may have weathered the storm, and now has two and a half years to pull into a new port.

Conversation in and around Harlan suggests that on a 1-10 scale it would rate a bland 3. I have not seen much interest in it one way or the other, and I've made no attempt to steer conversations as I see problems in the administration and problems with overzealous prosecution. Nobody cares at all, and arguably that is more problematic in the long haul than either pole.
