Welcome to The Conservative Edge, the world's first conservative online information and news service. (COINS). At The Conservative Edge, we have re-imagined the information dissemination business. Our site combines the features of a traditional daily newspaper with the citizen journalist qualities of the blogosphere.
In the near future, we will begin to advertise our business in traditional and non-traditional formats. We believe that newspapers are destined to become like the horse and buggy. They will still be around, but everyone will be driving something faster.
But in the interim, for your reading pleasure, we are happy to play host to the 142nd Carnival of the Vanities. WITH THIS CAVEAT, I TOOK YOUR ENTRIES SERIOUSLY, BUT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THE HOST WORK WITHOUT BEING IRREVERENT. So, without further ado, and in no particular order, here are this week's submissions:
David M takes on the Columbia Journalism Review here. (You gotta admire a guy who'll stick it to the media and the universitites in one fell swoop). Nickie Goomba, wants to up date us on new information regarding Koran handling, with this post . (Nickie says read it. Capiche?) At multiple mentality, Josh Cohen writes about disturbing things he has seen at Wal-Mart. (I think we've all been there).
You should follow your dollar, according to Elyas Bakhtiari at www.ablogistan.com. (Good advice in my opinion). Shamalama (No relation to shamalama ding dong) blogging at www.commonfolkcommonsense.blogspot.com, has issues with liberals reapportioning our money. Which you can read here. Warren Meyer (no relation to Oscar) writing for www.coyoteblog.com, is concerned about two classes of citizens. Those with free speech rights, and those without. (I hope I am in the first class, although my wife treats me like second class).
www.theglitteringeye.com will catch your eye, as Dave Schuler announces he has a thing for torture. Isaac Shrodinger at www.isaacshrodinger.typepad.com submits his first ever Carnival article on a serious subject. Tom Bowler at www.libertarianleanings.com, writes about Democrats and Howard Dean doing alot of projecting. (Funny, when I hear Dean speak I project things too. Like my lunch).
Overshop (last name withheld to protect the innocent) has a fascinating blog called My Fascinating Life which you can view at www.overshop2.blogspot.com. Overshop takes a hard look at the documentary "Supersize Me". (Unfortunately, someone already supersized me). Dave (only the orac knows) at www.oracknows.blogspot.com, posts about insolence and facts, and that never the twain shall meet. At www.thenoseonyourface.com, Buckley F. Williams got to interview Paris Hilton's nose, on her face, (I think). The ultimate germ zapper, Don Baker, www.zapgerms.blogspot.com, writes about an alarming outbreak of obesity in W. Va. (Yeah, that's what happened to my stomach, an outbreak of obesity).
Steve Pavlina of www.stevepavlina.com fame, writes about self discipline on his personal development blog. I am learning alot about self discipline myself, while preparing this Carnival. Koranteng, of Korentang Toli blog, www.koranteng.blogspot.com, ( try saying that fast five times) , has a post about a tongue twisting tale of linguistic gymnastics. (Make sure you have a paramedic standing by before you read it. Untangling tongues is not a job for amateurs). Over at www.smallestminority.blogspot.com, Kevin Baker wonders if rational people think the Constitution needs to be restored. (Kevin, I assure you that I don't).
If you're in the mood to mess with the culture and taxes, don't. Ashish Hanwadikar at www.ashish.typepad.com, said so here.
Michael Higgin's blog www.chocolateandgoldcoins.blogspot.com, (Two of my favorite things too, though not in that order), has a heart warming story about five books that meant alot to his son. If that's not heart warming enough for you, check out Zendo Deb of www.wheelgun.blogspot.com. Her blog is titled TFS Magnum. Zendo Deb says that Detroit has become concerned with church going, law abiding citizens excercising their second amendment rights. (Sounds like a bunch of radicals to me. You know, like George Washington, Paul Revere, and all those Minutemen ). Mustang 23 (who's real identity is a state secret, that if I revealed, would require me to liquidate you) has thoughts on Lt. Pantano at www.assumecommand.blogspot.com. (My thoughts exactly, sort of). Jorgos didn't make it through checks and balances.
Chris Jenkins at www.dubiousprofundity.com has a parody of life that seems to be short on parody. You should read it here. I seem to have lost my irreverence over this one. If you were wondering about the prospects of the EU, Blue at www.dsshubris.blogspot.com, has you covered. (Personally I am more concerned about the prospects of the french not letting old people die of heat exhaustion this summer. But that's for another day). If you have done less than five dumb things this week, you can skip Chuck's list of the Top Five Dumb Things I Did in Iraq This Week.
You can estimate your participation in the lottery with this helpful post by Ironman at www.politicalcalculations.blogspot.com. I am going to get my wife to read it, tonight. Continuing with the money thing, FMF (I am not sure what that stands for) of www.freemoneyfinance.com, has a post that lists the networth of bloggers who offer financial advice. I'm glad I don't offer financial advice. Ever thought of Neuromarketing? Me either. But Barry Welford of The Other Bloke's Blog, has. He's comparing Neuromarketing to Internet marketing, and concludes it's a no brainer. (Barry, you gotta give me props on that one).
Graham Lester, of Point2Point infamy, www.grahamlester.typepad.com, Would Love to See the Plan. What plan? That's for us to know, and you to find out. Fellow Kentucky blogger, Doug Petch, blogging at www.dougpetch.com, merges Toyotas, hybrids and ecomaginations (oh my!), into one coherent thought. Eco imagine that. NOTR (I am really not sure what that stands for) blogging at www.rofasix.blogspot.com, takes on the Wall Street Journal's critique of the Paris Hilton soft porn.....er, hamburger commercial. All I can say is "Where's the beef". (Alot of puns intended).
You Big Mouth, You, blogger, Chuck Simmins, www.blog.simmins.org, writes about desecrating the Quran here. Not wanting to become the next Salman Rushdie, I will refrain from irreverence. If you have any zombies living with you, have them read Mark A. Rayner's blog at www.markarayner.com. He's got some advice for zombies on how to deal with humans with our improved brains. (No one told me that I was eligible for an upgrade). Everyone likes a good poetic waxing, and John Pierce of Liberty Cadre does just that for us, with his post called "No Eloquence, No Vision and No Chance.
Being vigilant for wily rodents is difficut, but Watcher, of Watcher of Weasels, does an excellent job, and has time to blog on Koranapalooza. Are you trying to decide whether you should group blog, or go solo? Me either. But if you are, Michael Kantor of Half Sigma, has some of the pro's and con's here. I am a prosecutor, and alot of the pro's around here are cons. Mark Daniels of Better Living, thoughts by Mark Daniels has a take on Deep Throat, otherwise known as the Big Traitor, ...er Mark Felt.
Greg at www.genericconfusion.blogpsot.com , wants to ban offensive names of sports teams. Greg goes beyond the usual suspects like Redskins, Fighting Illini, and Flying Nuns, and gives some really thought provoking ideas. I for one never knew that the Cossacks were so sensitive. Thinking of having an event that focuses on blogging? Me either. But if you have one in the future, Wayne Hulbert at www.blogbusinessworld.blogspot.com, thinks that you should invite a blogger to speak. Why? because according to Wayne, bloggers know alot about blogging.
If you run a movie theater, Dean Abbot at Notes and Meditation, has some ideas on how to keep the patrons coming. Dean submitted two articles, but I only linked to one. You should be able to get the other article at his site. Sorry Dean, I was on a tight schedule. By the way, does one of your ideas involve wookies, jedi knights and a guy in a black cape and funky helmet?
The Editors of the American Federalist Journal are asking the important question: Do liberals support our troops? I think that liberals support the right to call our troops ugly names. The rest, I am not so sure about. A stroll down memory lane is in store for everyone who reads Rick Moran's ode to "Why I love history", you can catch the rest of Rick's stuff at the Right Wing Nuthouse.
Chad Hamilton at PlaidBerry Blog has some photos that help explain Jacques Chirac's 24% popularity rating. I recognize Chirac, but who is the guy in the fishnet stockings, high heels and garter belt? Do you remember The Gipper? (The better question may be, who doesn't?). Barry at The Palmetto Pundit does. Read his sentimental look back at Ronaldus Magnus, here. When Speaking of Cults, Eric Scheie, at Classical Values, thinks of practitioners of the Watergate religion. Eric attempts to dispel the myths about Watergate. (Good luck with that one Eric. There's rumors that Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon have built a shrine to Bob Woodward, at their Hollywood Hills estate).
Steven Couch at Blue State Red blog, questions the authenticity of the "Downing Street Memo' and concludes that those on the left calling for impeachment need to pay attention to the fact that the memo may be faked. I think those on the left, calling for impeachment, should pay attention to the fact that most people think they are nuts. For those of you who are contemplating blogging fiction, pay attention to Jason Pomerantz of Blogfic. Jason has three rules for success. I'd tell you what they are, but then you wouldn't read his post, now would you. Elisson of Blog d'Elisson, gets maudlin over some old photographs. (My old photographs are merely moldy).
Are you ready for some pontification? If so, head over to www.texthepontificator.blogspot.com. Tex is always good for some ponificating and this week is no exception. Tex thinks that we must bow to the reality that Mexican immigration cannot be stopped, so we must control it as best we can. (Tex if you don't mind, I'll skip the bowing, would a curetsy suffice?). East German Secret Agents, the CIA, and the "Rosewood Files" populate Mike Pechar's submission this week from the Interested-Participant. ( Somebody call Tom Clancy).
And finally, how appropriate is it that the last submission for this weeks Carnival deals with the Old Media Aristocracy, and their self absorption over Watergate? Bill Adams at www.idleryet.blog-city.com, posts with the headline When the Legend Becomes the Fact, Print the Legend. It deals with the myth propagated by the Old Media Aristocracy, that Woodward and Bernstein brought down Nixon.
That arrogance, and the liberal bias of the Old Media Aristocracy organizations are part and parcel of why The Conservativ Edge exists. I hope you enjoyed this Carnival, and for those who submitted content, I hope that your readership permanently increases.
