Barak Obama has made it well known that he disagrees with President Bush on alot of things. In fact, If Obama is to be believed in his spech at Mt. Olympus, he disagrees with Bush on everything. Obama promises 100% change from the way Bush does things.
Which is why it was so curious yesterday, to see Obama adopt three economic policies of the Bush Administration. (Actually it's not really curious, we talked about this issue some time ago. Obama has routinely trashed Bush, while advocating many Bush policies). Of course he didn't credit Bush, but the policies Obama advocated yesterday with George Stephanopoulus of ABC News are all policies of the Bush Administration.
1. Start with stimulus checks for the middle class. Obama wants to have another round of stimulus checks sent out immediately after he becomes president. Bush has used stimulus checks twice. Once seven years ago, and again this year. If Obama uses stimulus checks his 100% change mantra would be untrue.
2. Move on to tax cuts for the rich. Obama has backed off his pledge to end the Bush tax cuts to the "wealthy". It's a canard that the Bush tax cuts only benefitted the wealthy, but Obama had promised to repeal those tax cuts immediately. Color this one, another Bush policy that Obama would adopt.
3. Stabilizing the housing market. Obama said this is a key to economic recovery. Bush took the final steps to stabilize the housing market on Sunday when the federal government seized housing giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. In fact, Bush has been taking action to stabilize the housing markets for the better part of 2008.
The RNC could run some effective ads to counter the Obama campaign rhetoric. By doing so, they could possibly shore up or help Republicans in tough congressional races. In any event, Obama sure loves the Bush policies, even if he doesn't.
